Arrested assailant in Kapeeka attack Strangles himself in Police cells

The assailant known as Muwonge killed himself inside Police cells

A suspected assassin was found dead on Friday morning after he committed suicide inside Tororo Police cells.

The arrested assailant was among the gunmen who attacked security officers on patrol in Kapeeka Town Council last week killing 2 cops and a UPDF soldier.

Reliable information obtained by this website indicates that security launched a hunt for the criminals and Muwonge alias Salongo was intercepted as he fled to Burundi on a bus.

During the attack some of the assailants identified as  Denis Ssekimpi, 50, a resident of Namusera in Wakiso and Tarsis Mulegera, a Burundian national were gunned down.

A Police official who preferred anonymity told TrumpetNews that after the arrest of Salongo, he was transferred to Eastern Uganda following his confession his group was hiding guns in Mbale and other neighbouring towns.

“We took him there so that we recover guns and we have been keeping him at Tororo Police Station,” he said.

However, in the wee hours of Friday, Salongo used a t-shirt to strangle himself.

“Those people are trained. He committed suicide so that he jeopardizes our investigations,” said the Police official.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga was unaware of the assailant’s death when contacted but promised to follow up.
