Rebels abduct 2 marine Police officers in Ntoroko

A joint military and police operation is searching for missing cops

Two marine cops have gone missing after suspected rebels from DRC attacked marine police officers that were patrolling Lake Albert in Ntoroko District.

Information was received from a UPDF intelligence staff attached to Ntoroko in Albertine that the police officers who went for patrol were attacked by suspected a militia group from DR Congo on Lake Albert.

These include; Sgt Sam Namunyu and CPL Michael Mulyamboli. Constable Alfred Watumu and Constable Davis Asiimwe escaped but the latter was shot in the right arm and is currently receiving treatment at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.

Over the past years, the suspected armed militia from DR Congo has attacked fishermen on Lake Albert in the districts of Hoima, Buliisa and Ntoroko which borders the lake.

In 2018, seven Ugandan fishermen were reportedly shot dead by Congolese militia on Lake Albert.

The incident happened near Kaiso Landing site in Buseruka Sub County, Hoima District.

The deceased are all fishermen at Kaiso landing site. In the same year, two Ugandan fishermen were also abducted from the same landing site.
