Three cops including OC CID at Busika Police Station have been assassinated on Monday in a night raid.
The assailants have since taken three guns.
Security has responded to the attack by deploying numerous commandos from all agencies including JATT and Counterterrorism.
Uganda Police officials were by press time holed up in meeting.
A comprehensive statement on the attack will be issued later.
Some security officials relate the attack to reemerging rebel cells in the central region.
The raid on Busika Police comes after the media reported the arrest of a suspected rebel leader David Frank Ssemwogerere alias Col Ndugwa who has been masterminding the attack on policemen and theft of their rifles.
Ndugwa is s resident of Mityana District, only 50 kilometers away from Busika.
It remains unknown if the assailants are attached to Ndugwa’s rebel outfit.
