Exclusive: Besigye’s aide Mugumya out of Congolese jail But won’t Return home

Col Kizza Besigye’s aide Sam Mugumya who has been incarcerated in Ndolo military prison in Democratic Republic of Congo- DRC for close to a decade has finally regained his freedom.

Mugumya who remains in Congo was pictured with a placard reading “free at last.”

However, FDC officials and close associates of Mugumya were not at liberty to reveal details of his release, maintaining that “a few things are being sorted before he walks to freedom.”

FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat in January vowed never to rest until Mugumya is freed.

This website has established that whereas Mugumya could be a freeman, he will not return home to probably resume his activism.

“He was supposed to be released from prison today Friday but he will not come back to Uganda,” said a source in FDC that wished to remain unnamed.

This confirms why FDC officials were uncomfortable spilling information before Mugumya is sent to exile.

Earlier this year Mugumya, a strong-hearted activist rejected United Nation’s intervention in his release.

FDC reasoned that NRM would jump on such to claim political capital.

Our source further revealed that Mugumya could seek sanctuary in Germany where a fellow activist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija and Stella Nyanzi all FDC radicals now live.

While in Ndola prison Mugumya contracted Covid in 2020 at a time the pandemic ravaged the world, but he survived.

At the time Ugandan legislators asked government to negotiate the extradition of Ugandans stuck in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) prisons following the outbreak of coronavirus.

Government remained silent about the matter.

But there is no extradition treaty between Uganda and Congo and that is why Mugumya for all the time he has been incarcerated was not sent back home to stand trail.

Mugumya was arrested in Democratic Republic of Congo in October 2014 along with Aggrey Kamukama, Steven Mugisha, Nathan Bright and Joseph Kamugisha.
