An unidentified lady whose Tik Tok video went viral as she propagated sectarian talk while mocking dead UPDF General Elly Tumwine was arrested by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
According to a source, the woman was tracked by CMI operatives and arrested from Nansana Town in Wakiso district and has since been detained at SID in Kireka, a Kampala suburb.
CMI was prompted to take action because the woman used inappropriate language to mock and celebrate the death of Gen Tumwine while fueling sectarian talk which could lead the country into genocide.
“We arrested her a few days after she released the video and ever since we have been keeping her in custody,” said a high-ranking official in CMI.
When interrogated the lady whose name has not been divulged for security reasons confessed that she had no vendetta against the person of Late Tumwine and apologized for the ignorance exhibited.
Shockingly, the establishment later learnt that lady was related to Late Tumwine and was a distant niece.
Culturally, Banyankore consider their niece and nephew, daughter and son respectively.
The evidence was presented to CMI by the woman’s grandmother she stays with in Nansana.
“The old woman has pleaded for mercy for her and we still considering whether to release or charge her,” added the CMI official.
The army publicist Brig Felix Kulayigye was unavailable for a comment.
Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson when contacted said he was unaware of the arrest.
The public has many times been warned to desist from peddling sentiments that can fuel a civil war in Uganda.
