Uganda has in the recent past turned into fodder for Nigerian musicians whether upcoming or not.
Ugandan music lovers have also not disappointed them but rather coughed averagely $30 dollars for 1 hour or less to watch the artistes sing live on stage.
It goes without saying that Uganda like the rest of the world grapples with high cost of living.
The 30 dollars in this economic crisis, can feed a family of three for five days, but a Ugandan chooses pleasure over hunger.
The question therefore is what special ingredient do Nigerians use in their songs that Ugandans don’t.
Speaking to a popular comedian and also a professional sound engineer Alex Muhangi about what difference the Nigerian music makes that compels partiers to harass Ugandan DJs to play the music in Ugandan clubs, he said that Nigerians have mastered one element.
“Creating sound the ear wants to hear which at the same time is very smooth and doesn’t hurt the ear,” he said.
Asked to expound on his argument, Muhangi said the difference is simple.
The ear will not tire from listening to Nigerian music.
“The ear keeps yearning for more, not the listener. And once you master that you conquer,” he said.
Without mentioning particulars, Muhangi who many agree with, said some songs can hurt the ear, the instruments, beats used simply tire the ear.
Over 10 Nigerian artistes have visited Uganda, staged massive concerts and made history.
Some include; Adeknule Gold, Tiwa Savage, Fireboy, Kizz Daniel, Fave, Ladipo, Ayrr Star, Blaq Diamond, and among others- all known by their stage names.
At some point Uganda hosted a Nigerian artiste in Kampala at Lugogo Cricket Oval stadium three consecutive weekend and all shows were a success.
At some point crowds braved heavy downpour as Nigerian diva Tiwa Savage entertained them.
On top of that, Ugandans have turned against local musicians and chided them for failing to match up the Nigerians.
They have no hits, no good music, no style, no class and have even failed to copy what their counterparts in West Africa do.
Maddox Ssematimba
But the Ugandan roots reggae singer can give a any Nigerian artiste a bloody nose at Lugogo yet he neither has a new hit nor sings afro beat and the famous amapiano.
Equipped with only two albums released in 2000 and 2006, Maddox can turn Lugogo upside down.
All his songs are loved by Ugandans and he is the type of an artiste who never puts up a strong performance but cheered from the moment he steps on stage until he drops the mic.
Shockingly, he is loved by all the generations even those born when he released his first album, can sing to his songs word by word.
Unfortunately Maddox alias David Amon Ssemanda Ssematimba is unaware of his potential.
On Wednesday night partiers went wild at Comedy Store when the aging Rastafarian took to the stage.
The fans were left were yearning for more.
In expressing their love, they threw money to the stage, more than what he could have been paid to sing.
Comedy Store happens every Wednesday night when a group of comedians crack jokes before thousands of fans and the night is closed with musical performances.
Lilian Mbabazi formerly of BLU*3 opened the session with great performance, and the new kid of the block Mudra alias Alfa Sebunya followed with a electrified and powerful show but the 50 year old mashed up the place, fans stood, sung along and lined up to tip the calm singer as he bowed to acknowledge their support.
Comedy Store averagely hosts 5000 people, if all can raise to dance to Maddox’s reggae what about if he is across at cricket oval- which accommodates over 30000 peoples?
