IGG’s Statement
The Inspectorate of Government has arrested the managing Director M/S Giant Company Ltd, Opua Alex Emongas for causing financial loss of Uganda Shillings Five Billion two hundred and fourteen million four hundred eighty nine thousand eight hundred and forty five.
Mr Opua was picked by detectives on Wednesday, July 27.
The particulars of the case are as follows: CAUSING FINANCIAL LOSS: Opua Alex Emongas, Managing Director M/s. Giant Company Ltd. During Financial Year 2014/2015 to 2017/ 2018 in Kampala, received Ugx 5,214,489,845 (Uganda Shillings five billion two hundred and fourteen million four hundred and eighty nine thousand eight hundred forty five) from National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) for supply of tea seedlings to Nebbi and Zombo districts whereas not, knowing or having reason to believe that his actions would cause financial loss to the Government of Uganda and indeed caused financial loss Ugx 5,214,489,845

THEFT: Opua Alex Emongas, Managing Director M/s. Giant Company Ltd. during Financial Year 2014/2015 to 2017/ 2018 fraudulently and without any claim of right stole Ugx 5,214,489,845 (Uganda Shillings five billion two hundred and fourteen million four hundred and eighty nine thousand eight hundred forty five) Opua Alex Emongas was arrested at the IG Offices and is expected to appear at the Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday 28. July 2022 at 9:00 am.
