Police: Rubongoya threatened Minister Aceng; To be Prosecuted in Northern Uganda

Uganda Police has broken silence on the arrest of NUP secretary general Lewis David Rubongoya who is currently detained at Natete police station together with his driver Gordon Agaba.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango explained that Rubongoya was arrested on allegations of threatening violence.

“It’s alleged that  on 26/05/2022 at about 1200 hrs while in Omoro County Mr Rubongoya using Motor vehicle reg. no.UAS 490Z Toyota land cruiser white in colour threatened Hon. Acheng Ruth vide Omoro SD reference 19/26/5/2022,” he tweeted.

At that time there was a by-election in the constituency.

Onyango said Rubongoya and his driver will be transferred to Northern Uganda for prosecution.

“They are pending transfer to Omoro,” he said.

Earlier Rubongoya tweeted that, “Today morning while driving via wandegeya with my driver Agaba Gordon, a traffic officer stopped us and claimed that my car is wanted on allegations of having committed a crime during the recently concluded by-election in Omoro.”
