The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has rejected contract extension of seven police directors at the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).
In police, every officer who is elevated to that rank of AIGP is given a contract of 3 years subjected to renewal.
The 7 officers’ contract had run out in 2020 and Museveni offered them two year, hoping they would extend after expiry.
The seven cops sent packing are; AIGP ANDREW SOLOWEN DIRECTOR WELFARE, AIGP JOHN NDUGUTSE ATTACHED TO UN NAIROBI, AIGP STEVEN MUGISHA DIRECTOR FIRE, AIGP DAVID OCHOM DIRECTOR OPERATIONS, AIGP ABASS BYAKAGABA DIRECTOR CT, AIGP HARUNA ISABIRYE ATTACHED TO AMERICA and AIGP ASAN KASINGYE DIRECTOR CP.
Kasingye handed over office on Tuesday and has since left Police.
This website has learnt that these AIGPd at the beginning of the year approached their boss, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Kahinda Otafiire and implored him to talk to Museveni to see them stay in office serving in their respective positions.
The request fell on Museveni’s deaf ear, who without any explanation didn’t justify the denial of their contract extension.
Most AIGPs are considered affluent cops. Their wealth is attributed to huge budgets they control in their directorates.
Whereas Kasingye handed over, his colleagues are expected to follow suit in the coming days.
Kasingye handed over instruments of office to his deputy Hillary Kulaige.
