President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has unequivocally said he will not revoke the controversial coffee agreement.
Museveni said he will instead study the proposals brought forward by those against the agreement.
He made the revelation on Sunday while celebrating the Labour Day at Kololo grounds in Kampala.
“The coffee deal I have heard a lot. We won’t take it away we are saying let’s study what you are saying. Good enough you have written it. It is in blue and black,” Museveni briefly said as he addressed the nation.
The deal has been a subject of debate in the country with many leaders criticizing as a bad deal.
The deal was signed between Uganda government through Ministry of Finance and an investor Enrica Pinetti under her firm Uganda Vinci Coffee Company (UVCC).
However, it emerged that Pinetti had signed the agreement as a witness.
Legislators both from opposition and ruling party have teamed up to fight the agreement saying it strips local farmers off their power.
At the beginning of the week, Museveni met with lawmakers of his party who also maintained the same position saying sanctioning the deal will cost them votes in 2026.
Parliamentary committee on trade has kicked off investigations into the controversial deal.
