The Rotary Club of Bukoto has always front-led in community activities, especially the ones that benefit vulnerable citizens like mothers and children, the elderly and people with disabilities in order to give them a chance to live normal, healthy and beneficial lives.

This morning, led by District Governor, John Magezi Ndamira, who was the Chief Guest, Past President & Chair of the Maternal & Child Health Project, Mercy K. Kainobwisho, Hon. Mike Sebalu ,Rotarian Edith Mujwisa along with a team of good hearted Rotarians took part in the launch and ground breaking ceremony of the Family Health Camp and Health Facility construction respectively. The Health facility whose construction was launched today will support maternal & child health in the Kabutemba wider Communities as well as other parts of Gomba & Mpigi Districts.

The launch of this project precedes the previous initiative of similar magnitude that was held at the Kiruddu Hospital in Kawempe last year at which Rotary International President Rotarian Shekhar Mehta personally attended to oversee and preside over the donation of essential necessities and medical equipment needed to support maternal and child health to the hospital.

The launch of the Family Health Camp in Kabutemba is in line with the proposed signature project for the year 2022 that aims at supporting inclusive Maternal & Child Health activities across disadvantaged communities.

District Governor John Ndamira also handed over special items to over 50 expecting mothers that attended the health camp. 600 community members including children were at hand to witness the handover of the donation amidst cheers from community leaders who were full of praise for the kind and generous contribution to their wellbeing.

Speaking at the ceremony, DG Ndamira said Rotary’s focus had always been to support community initiatives that improved health, saved lives and contributed to the general health and well-being of everyone. ‘ I am glad that we are kicking off this project. It is our vision as Rotary to see that the communities in which we live, such as the Kabutemba Community where we are here today, also benefit from our generosity and be assured that we look out for them. I want to assure the mothers here that we have you at heart and want you to give birth safely, and that your children and yourselves remain healthy. Mothers are the nation builders while children are the future. We will continue to look out for you all’  DG Ndamira said.

The Chairperson, Maternal & Child Health Project, Rotarian Mercy K. Kainobwisho thanked the teams that had made contributions to the the start of the project, making special mention of the guest of honor DG John Ndamira and the Lutaaya Family.

The Chairperson further praised, appreciated and thanked the Past President of the Rotary Club of Bukoto, Dr. Grace Mulindwa who was the Coordinator  of Health Camp, as well the partners, Health Service providers, UMC Victoria Hospital who too were at hand to support the charity initiative for the Kabutemba Community. Rotarians from across the country continue to make impact through their generous contribution to community activities such as the annual Rotary Cancer Run
