The Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister, Charles Peter Mayiga has urged all Ugandans to forget what was said about the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi by Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo.
The Chief Justice on Thursday morning visited Mengo Palace despite the absence of the King and was welcomed by Mayiga in a bid to further extend his apology to the Kabaka and the Kingdom.
Mr Dollo a few days ago, in a strong voice alleged that the Kabaka of Buganda had been airlifted to Germany for treatment in a Presidential Jet.
His revelation sparked off a huge debate among members of Buganda who perceived Dollo as peddling tribal undertones.
Mr Mayiga would later clarify that the King used KLM flight to Germany.
The Chief Justice later apologized and vowed to meet Buganda Premier to register his apology.
In his speech while welcoming Mr Dollo to the palace, Mayiga said friendship arises from a fight.
“I am sure the Chief justice leaves this palace as a brother. I urge all Uganda to leave what was said behind us,” he said.
Owiny- Dollo was accompanied by former UPC president Olara Otunnu whose penchant for peace is well known.
“However, in the course of this emotional expression, I made a wrong and inappropriate reference to His Majesty, the Kabaka of Buganda.
I hereby unequivocally, unreservedly, and of my free volition, wholly retract that reference; and also hereby tender my apology to His Majesty, the Kabaka,” the Chief Justice said.
