The Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP Dr Ruth Jane Aceng has pulled out of the race for Speaker of Parliamentary.
Aceng expressed interest on Tuesday and her name was sent to NRM’s central executive committee (CEC), a highest decision making party organ for approval.
And once Aceng’s name had been endorsed, it would require her to resign her ministerial post.
The Minister was among a delegation that travelled to United States last week to visit Speaker Jacob Oulanyah in hospital.
He was pronounced dead Sunday by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
13 NRM MPs had yesterday expressed interest to replace Oulanyah since the law mandates that no business can be conducted on the floor of Parliament without a substantive Speaker.
Two opposition legislators so far have vowed to contests for the seat.
Aceng has since written to the party’s Electoral Commission informing him of her withdrawal.
Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM EC chairman has confirmed Aceng’s request to pull out of the race.
CEC sits Wednesday to approve candidates who will compete in Friday’s election at Kololo grounds.
