The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah has for undergone surgery three times since he arrived in a hospital in Seattle, America last month.
The Speaker was rushed to this hospital in a privately chartered Uganda Airlines Airbus while in a critical condition.
As U.S medical specialists recommended that Oulanyah should stay in hospital until April, several government officials on Tuesday left Uganda for America to “check on the patient.”
The officials are Minister of Health Dr Ruth Aceng, Chief Justice Alfonso Owiny Dollo, Deputy Speaker Anita Among, DP president Norbert Mao and Oulanyah’s brother Francis Emuna.
This development triggered speculation that the Speaker could be critically ill.
DP president Mao on Thursday night tweeted saying Oulanyah is very ill and needed prayers.
“I’m with the CJ, the D/Speaker, the Health Minister & the Speaker’s brother in Seattle where the Speaker is hospitalized. A man who is very ill deserves our prayers. Above all let’s respect his privacy and that of his family. The D/Speaker will soon issue a statement. It is well!” he tweeted.
The latest this website has gathered indicates that Oulanyah has so far undergone three major operations in the stomach which have left him very week, “because the surgeries cause low blood flow,” a top government official said.
“The operations can also weaken other body organs like the heart and brain. It is not that easy. But he is recovering and we hope he will be fine,” he added.
Oulanyah’s health has been a subject of discussion after a section of the public circulated fake news on social media that he had passed on Tuesday night.
Several political actors irrespective of their affiliations have condemned false rumors on the Speaker’s health.
Instead have asked the public to come together and put Oulanyah in their prayers.
QUICK RECOVERY HON JACOB OULANYAH.
