Midterm Access: Masses storm NSSF to Get their money

Hundreds line up to enter NSSF building

Hundreds of Ugandans have Monday morning thronged National Social Security Fund (NSSF) head offices in Kampala to initiate a process to access half of their savings.

Earlier on at Serena Hotel, NSSF managing director Richard Byarugaba said members who qualify to access their money should begin applying monday(today).

The Minister of Gender Hon Betty Among, last week issued a comprehensive statement indicating which category of people is eligible to get their saving following President Yoweri Museveni signing of NSSF midterm access into law at the beginning of the year.

“Before I conclude I would like to firmly state that the question of whether the Fund has the money to pay Mid-term Benefit or not should not arise. I have received assurances from the Fund that adequate liquidity has been set aside to pay qualifying members as and when they apply,” Hon Among said.

She added that NSSF projects that it will pay about UGX 50 billion per week over the next 5 months. I assure all members of the Fund and the country at large that all qualifying members who would like to be paid, will be paid.
