Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has requested his father who is the Commander in Chief (CIC) of the UPDF to forgive former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura.
After 13 years at the helm of the police establishment, Kayihura was fired acrimoniously in 2018 and would later face the Court Martial over a string of accusations including aiding and abetting kidnap and forceful repatriation of Rwandan refugees and failure to protect war materials.
He spent 76 days in military detention at Makindye Barracks until he was given bail by the military court on condition that he would never leave Uganda.
Shortly after release, he was sanctioned by the United States Department of State.
Some of his close allies he worked with in Police are still languishing in jail with their chances of getting out waning.
Kayihura has since chosen to live a quiet life at his village home in Kasagama, Lyantonde district while venturing into farming.
So many government officials have appealed to President Museveni to forgive Kayihura because every human being is prone to mistakes.
During the previous Presidential campaigns, the people of Kisoro begged Museveni to forgive Kayihura.
Museveni’s son on Wednesday issued an appeal to his father to pardon “a special cadre.”
“Gen K Kayihura was one of those special cadres in the early 1990s who inspired us to serve our nation. Others were late Generals Mayombo and Kazini,” tweeted the Commander of Land Forces.
He added: “ If he made mistakes, let us use revolutionary methods of work to rectify them. I request the CIC to forgive and rehabilitate him.”
