The government of the United States of America (USA) has issued unilateral financial sanctions against the Chief of Military Intelligence Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho.
This action has left the UPDF rather disappointed compelling the army to write a formal document in the form of a Press Statement, expressing the disappointment of the forces.
The decision came both as a shock and disappointment because the UPDF and Uganda as a country consider the United States a partner state and great ally.
Unfortunately, the decision was made without due process, no fair hearing and neither the state nor the UPDF was consulted.
“As a country and UPDF in particular, a reputable government institution, we are disappointed that such a decision could be made by a country we consider friendly, a partner and great ally, without due process and in total disregard of the principle of “fair hearing”, coupled with failure to make the necessary consultations,” read the press statement from the Office of the Defence Spokesperson.
The forces intend to seek clarity and a solution for the situation at hand from the government or relevant authorities of the United States of America.
“Going forward, we will be seeking clarification from the United States of America government/authorities to be able to determine a way forward,” read the statement.
