The Uganda Human Rights Commission UHRC) has issued a statement on the twin bomb attacks at Central Police and Parliament Avenue on Tuesday.

Two bombs went off yesterday in the center of business causing the death of 3 people, 3 suicide bombers and leaving 36 injured.
This comes after a number of bombs have exploded all over the country starting with the one at Komamboga, Kawempe Division.

All these incidents have resulted in loss of lives, many injured persons, and damage on property.

The Uganda Human Rights Commission therefore came out to condemn incidents yesterday saying, “The Uganda Human Rights Commission strongly condemns acts of violence and terror and speaks out against such cowardly attacks whose purpose is to spread fear and terror among peace loving Ugandans.

We commiserate with the families that have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured.”

It pointed out that the right to life is the most important right as enshrined in Article 22(1) of the 1995 Constitution and without it other rights cannot be realized, therefore, ”all life should be treated with utmost respect and dignity.”

The commission showed its gratitude to the security forces for their efficiency in responding to the incidents and the vigilance they exhibit and asked them not to relax.
“We urge them to invest every effort in identifying, arresting and arraigning the perpetrators of these attacks before courts of law to answer for their actions,” read the statement from the UHRC Chairperson, Mariam Wangadya.

Every citizen of Uganda is called upon to abide by the law as is their duty, to be respectful of the rights and freedoms of others and co-operate with lawful agencies. In addition to that, UHRC calls upon all Ugandans to seek peaceful means of conflict resolution as opposed to violence and terror attacks.

“We call upon all Ugandans to use peaceful means of resolving any possible conflicts as a way to ensure the highest standards of dignity for all. Always remember that national peace and security is as important as individual rights and freedoms, “read the statement.
