President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who appointed Dr Monica Musenero, Minister of Science and Innovations has promised to ‘deal’ with whoever dares to fight his scientist.
Museveni backed Musenero a day after Parliament passed a resolution to constitute a “special committee” to probe the Minister over mismanagement of shs 31 billion extended to her office to facilitate the development of local Covid-19 vaccine.
Legislators sitting on Tuesday heard from their colleague Yona Musinguzi- MP Ntungamo Municipality- that the Minister misused the billions and created a company which employed her son and husband in which money was sent to.
Mr Musinguzi tabled a heap of documents claiming they contained incriminating evidence against Dr Musenero- who formerly served as Presidential Advisor on epidemic.
She was also vital as a member of Covid-19 Joint Taskforce.
The MP after displaying the papers, requested the Speaker to avail him security since he had exposed a matter which would put his life in danger. His request was granted.
But presiding over an events at Kololo Grounds on Wednesday to mark the World Science Week, the President warned all those fighting his Minister that they must prepare for tough war. He went ahead to declare that he would die with whoever touches her.
He further urged the scientists to use innovation to support import substitution/ export promotion through value addition.
Musenero and her office had organized the event where a number of scientists showcased different innovations.
President Yoweri Museveni in a number of his public addresses maintains that scientists in the country deserve “special treatment.”
Against that backdrop, he directed the Ministry of Education to increase salaries of science teachers at all levels.
