The Electoral Commission has said that it will conduct the display of the National Voters’ Register from Monday 8th to Wednesday 17th November 2021. This is in preparation for the by-elections for Local Government Councils in various electoral areas across the country where vacancies exist.

“The display of the Voters’ Register shall begin at 8:00am and ned at 6:00pm at all polling stations in the affected electoral areas on each of the appropriated dates, including weekends,” the EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon said in the press release.

The display exercise is meant to help voters check for the correctness of their particulars on the Voters’ Register. Confirm their photographs appears against correct particulars on the Register and to raise objections to the inclusion and or removal of a voter’s particulars from the Register. In addition to that, it is also meant to enable voters report to the Display Officer the following categories of persons if the appear on the Register for removal: Those who have died, are under 18 years of age, reside or originate from a parish other than the one they are registered in and those who appear more than once on the Voters’ Register.

The Commission will issue temporary Voter Location Slips (VLS) to voters during the display period so that they can conveniently locate their respective polling station on polling day.

The EC also says that the list for all persons recommended for deletion from the National Voters’ Register shall also be displayed for a period of six days after this display. This is from 18th to 23rd November 2021 at the respective Parish/Ward Headquarters within the said electoral areas.
This is to allow any persons who may have been wrongly recommended for deletion to raise an objection to the Parish/Ward Tribunal which shall then consider and make the final decision concerning recommendations for inclusion, deletion or correction made by the public.

“All persons participating in the display exercise shall be required to comply with the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission in accordance with the Government of Uganda and Ministry of Health measures against the spread of COVID-19. These include observing social distancing, hand washing and wearing of masks,” the EC cautions the general public.
