Anita Among: MPs without Covid vaccination Certificates won’t Enter Parliament

Deputy Speaker Anita Among issued a directive (file photo)

The deputy Speaker has notified legislators that whoever is not vaccinated will not be allowed to access premises of Parliament.

The move is aimed at encouraging Ugandans to freely vaccinate against Covid-19.

MPs are among the first Ugandans who received first and second doses of the vaccine.

Hon Anita Among said that against that background all MPs must now carry their COVID19 vaccination certificates before attending House sittings. “Covid-19 is still with us and we should not relax”

A number of government institutions has introduced that guideline to all its workers and visitors to present vaccination certificate or PCR results before one can access the offices.

The government has in the recent past appealed to its citizens above 18 years to quickly take Covid-19 jabs to protect themselves against the deadly virus.

However, vaccination message has been criticized by naïve Ugandans who also misled the population citing dangers of vaccination.

But research has proved the vaccine are safe since no fully vaccinated Ugandan has lost battle to Covid-19.

Government and other development partners have shipped into the country a number of vaccines including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, among others.

In the past, Members of Parliament have died of Covid-19, many tested positive compelling the administration to close Parliament.
