Bijambiya men on Sunday 17th, October 2021, invaded the residence of Mr. Frank Sserubiri, the Chairperson NRM National Central Youth Coordinators in Kitende along Entebbe Road.
According to Mr Sserubiri, the Bijambiya men were targeting him and Mr Juma Weitonzi.
“We were attacked by these men but they were targeting me and my brother Juma Weitonzi. They attacked our home in Kitende. They were the Bijambiya guys and they were about 7 people with pangas,” said Sserubiri.
The murderous men managed to brutally attack a young man called Shakul who was guarding the premises, using their pangas, leaving him in critical condition with deep cuts on the head. He only survived further injury when the Police responded swiftly to the alert and the Bijambiya men who were about 7 according to Sserubiri, fled the scene.
Shakul was taken to Kisubi hospital where he is receiving treatment. Sserubiri’s home is one out of the over 10 homes that have been attacked by the Bijambiya men on Entebbe road.
He is oblivious of why and who is behind these attacks but stresses that he and his colleagues have been receiving phone calls from anonymous people.
“+393199053931/ +35227234143 are the numbers which have been calling us but when we answer they don’t speak. When the first one calls, the other calls in 30 minutes too,” said a shaken Sserubiri.
“We don’t know what we did and we don’t know how or why they target people with a relation to the Banyarwanda tribe” he added. According to Frank, he is a Muganda by birth, born in Gomba but is a Munyarwanda by tribe.
He says that even when they try to report the issue to the security forces, they do not take over the situation. He added that, “We have tried to tell ISO, Crime Intelligence but they don’t care about us but instead give security to other people who are mobilizers like us.” He alleges that this might be because he together with his colleagues bluntly speak facts and want the manifesto fully implemented and even openly refused the money from the Office of the Prime Minister.
The NRM youth coordinator continues to live in fear of being gruesomely attacked and even worse, losing their lives. “We are in fear. No one is responding and however much police has done their work, we don’t get help or any reports on the matter,”
When we asked for his comment on the issue, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said, “I am not yet aware of the issue but let me inquire and see.”
