President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked the public to distinguish salary from authority.
For example, he said he earns shs 3,600,000 million of which shs 700,000 goes to the party and receives 2,700,000 on his account but that has not stopped him from being the President of Uganda.
“I am the President of Uganda, if you want to check my power you try it,” he said while addressing the nation’s teachers at Kololo on Tuesday.
The teachers were demanding a pay rise. Museveni revealed that arts teachers will not see an increment.
“But I get a salary of 3.6 million. And I knock off 700, 000 shillings for the NRM. So the money they send on Mama’s account is 2.7 million for the President.”
Museveni said he rejected a huge salary unlike other government officials
“I hear some government officials are getting 50 million..what…what what! They give themselves salaries there. I refused that salary.”
“But you challenge my authority now and see what happens,” he added.
Museveni said he gets little salary but everybody knows who is the President of Uganda…”So please don’t mix up, don’t mix up salary with authority.”
