The management of Gwatiro Hospital located in Byeyogerere, Wakiso District has refused to release the dead body of a 6 months old baby was who born prematurely.
The doctors placed the baby in an incubation but died 12 days later.
The management revealed to this website that on learning that the baby is dead, its mother fled the hospital.
The father, a resident of the nearby village- Kito in Kirinya, according to the hospital management refused to clear the bill that had accumulated to shs 2.8 million
According to the parents, “the hospital is notorious for being broad day light scams and being completely unethical.”
They went on to accuse the hospital of buying off the Ministry of Health making it impossible for them to have the operational system of the hospital examined and something done about it.
One of the former patients of Gwatiro Hospital affirmed these allegations saying, “He treated my child for malaria for two nights and asked for shs 760,000, I refused to pay it. He told me his treatment is different and unique from other hospitals.”
However, TrumpetNews managed to talk to James Katumba, an administrator of Gwatiro Hospital, who admits the detaining of the body.
According to him the premature baby had been in the facility for twelve days where the medical team used various resources to keep the baby alive.
Unfortunately, the baby passed on.
The baby’s mother ran away leaving the father of the baby who still refuses to pay the hospital bills.
“That premature baby has been in our facility for 12 days. Being in the facility for 12 days, we have been using electricity, an incubator, oxygen etc to preserve the baby’s life. But now after 12 days the baby died. After dying, the mother of the baby ran away. The dad remained but says they are not going to pay because the baby died. We said we are not going to give them the dead body.”, said Katumba.
According to him the father of the child has gone to Bweyogerere and Jinja Road police stations and Ministry of Gender who all say he should clear the hospital bills.
“The father went to police; to Bweyogerere who said he pays the money, he went to Jinja Road which also said the same. He even involved Ministry of Gender who have also said that he needs to have a discussion with management, raise some money then clear the rest of the bill after.”, reports the hospital administration.
By press time, the hospital had not released the body.
