Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) is sourcing for a potential replacement of Francis Onebe at Post Bank.

Onebe who is incarcerated in Kitalya Prison, battling murder charges has been serving the bank as non- Executive Director overseeing audit, accountancy and taxation.

A non executive director is a member of the board and appointed by Minister of Finance. A non director is not a full or part-time employee of the bank or holder of an executive office but devotes part of his time to the affairs of the bank as an independent adviser or supervisor.

Mr Onebe who wields 35 years of experience in Audit, Accountancy, Taxation and Consultancy Assignments with clients from all sectors of the economy in the East African region, was arrested in the recent past following the discovery of a decomposing corpse in a septic tank at his residence in Munyonyo, an upscale Kampala suburb.

Police later confirmed that the corpse was Onebe’s wife Immaculate Mary Onebe who disappeared at the start of his year on January 6 as she went to buy home groceries.

Onebe reported to security that his wife was missing, 9 months later a body was found in their marital home.

On Tuesday, Makindye Court remanded Onebe to Kitalya together with his bodyguard.

A source at Post Bank who preferred anonymity said that authorities are concerned in keeping the image of the institution and also emotionally protecting the female clients, therefore, there is no way Mr Onebe can remain occupying that position.

Julius Keketo, the bank’s CEO couldn’t comment on this development when contacted.

Investigations into Onebe’s wife’s murder are on going to establish the cause and who exactly killed her.

Onebe and his deceased wife were running businesses together, owned a security company and an audit firm- Price & King which is affiliated with Prime Global.
