The Chief Magistrate of Kapchorwa, Brians Teko, was on Sunday night brutally arrested by cops on accusation that he brandished a firearm and made threats to a civilian after a scuffle.
It is alleged that the then armed Chief Magistrate had an argument with one Matthew Lorika at Mount Moroto Hotel.
As a result of the argument getting heated, a displeased Brians Teko pulled out his weapon, a pistol, and threateningly pointed it at Mr Lorika.
Whether his intention was to harm Lorika by shooting him or to merely frighten him is yet to be established.
He was however, disarmed and forcefully arrested by the police, and taken to Moroto Central Police Station in the back of a police truck.
Given his unyielding attitude to the arrest, there was a struggle between him and the police. Amidst the struggle, he wasn’t at the time handcuffed but rather thrown in the back of the police truck and whisked off to the police station.
While there, he was yet not submissive to authority which attracted brutal forceful treatment from the policemen on duty who kept on repeating, “handcuff him!”, and
“why don’t you respect order?” in an attempt to handcuff the defiant Chief Magistrate. The riled-up policemen went on to remove the Chief Magistrate’s belt and shoes and one of them was recorded saying, “tie him with his belt” in response to the hard time the Chief Magistrate was giving them.
A statement from the police is yet to be released in line with Chief Magistrate Teko’s arrest.
