Annet Nampijja, a 70-year-old resident of Kasaali village has been killed by unknown machete-wielding assailants who continue to wreak havoc in Greater Masaka.
Nampijja was attacked by on Wednesday night at around 8pm and hacked to death.
Police was alerted and responded by cordoning off the area and immediately kicked off a hunt for the notorious attackers commonly known as ‘Bijambiya men.’
Nampijja’s murder rises the death toll to 14 in one month.
Investigations have revealed that the killers did not take anything from Nampijja’s house.
Police attributes the latest killings in Greater Masaka to unresolved land matters.
Available records show that between July 22 and August 23, 14 people have been killed by machete-wielding thugs while 14 others are currently nursing serious injuries in the districts of Sembabule, Lwengo, Lyantonde, Masaka and Bukomansimbi.
Police spokesperson for southern region Muhammad Nsubuga, said their preliminary investigations reveal that most of the incidents are linked to land wrangles.
The land conflicts, Nsubuga said, are majorly between the family members and sometimes their neighbours who secretly hire assailants to kill their targets.
“Some of the murder victims, for example, in Lyantonde where a milk dealer, Edison Katema, was killed last Friday; the reports have got indicate that the deceased was involved in a land wrangle with a one Muhumuza and the matter is still in court,” he told Daily Monitor on Monday.
