UPPC boss Prof. Wasswa arrested For embezzling Shs.3bn

Prof. Tom Davis Wasswa, the managing director of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has been arrested over alleged embezzlement of shillings 3 billion.

The arrest which was conducted by detectives from Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) happened Tuesday evening, hours after Mr Wasswa had been interdicted by the line minister Milly Babalanda.

Babalanda suspended the board of governors and the top management of the entity, to allow investigations into the alleged fraud and financial mismanagement of public funds.

Charles Twine, the CID publicist confirmed the arrest of Wasswa and said that detectives are hunting for his accomplices.

“Police at CID headquarters has arrested Prof. Wasswa Tomas Davis, the Managing Director Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) for alleged Embezzlement of Ugx 3 billion of Corporation’s money. Syndicate noticed and other culprits to be pursued,” Twine said.

The accomplices who were also interdicted include; Kitamuweesi Musubire  the Chairman Board of Directors, Moreen Nyakato  the Acting Corporation Secretary and Andrew Senabulya the Senior Internal Auditor.

In a meeting which took place at the entity’s head offices sometime back in Entebbe, Minister Babalanda offered to exonerate any official who was willing to confess and return the funds.

The offer was however only valid for 6 days, which ended on Monday, 23rd.

“Using my powers as Line Minister under Sec.6 of the UPPC Act, yesterday I temporarily suspended the M.D and Board of UPPC. The action is intended to pave way for investigations into allegations of corruption and forgery. All other staff is urged to continue working normally,” Babalanda Tuesday.

“I have today officially interdicted the MD, Board, Company Secretary, and Internal Auditor of UPPC to pave way for investigations into allegations of corruption and other irregularities. In the meantime, Mr. James Tweheyo has been appointed as caretaker MD,” she added.
