Foreign Minister, Gen. Al-Haji Abubaker Jeje Odongo has cleared air on the whereabouts of NUP blogger Fred Lumbuye, saying he is not yet in Uganda.
Gen. Jeje was appearing before the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament together with his junior minister Hon Okello Oryem on Thursday.
“The matter of Lumbuye is still a discussion between Uganda, Turkey and Interpol,” Gen. Jeje said.
He said that once the discussions are over, he will share with the committee the status of the belligerent blogger who faces multiples charges.
Lumbuye, reports from Turkey indicate that he was arrested sometime back following President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to security forces.
Museveni was incessed by Lumbuye’s falsehoods having announced him dead. The President said such lies cause unnecessary anxiety among members of the public.
The notorious extremist using his facebook page, for a long period time, made derogatory remarks against the President and the Kabaka of Buganda.
“But as of now I can tell you discussions are going on,” Jeje added.
His revelation aroused queries from the MPs who demanded to know whether Lumbuye was in the country as earlier said by Minister Okello Oryem.
Defending himself, Mr Oryem denied saying that Lumbuye had been deported.
“At no time did I say Lumbuye was deported. I said he is to be deported,” Foreign Affairs state minister, Okello Oryem said.
A local newspaper last week alleged that Lumbuye had been detained in Gulu and was scheduled to meet Gen. Salim Saleh.
