Minister Oryem to Ugandans: Lumbuye won’t Feed your Family, Go and Work

Minister Okello Oryem

Junior minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Okello Oryem has told off Ugandans to instead channel their energy into working for their families rather than asking for government critic Fred Lumbuye who was reportedly arrested in Turkey a weeks ago.

Reports suggest that Lumbuye was arrested by unidentified people following a directive by President Yoweri Museveni to hunt for all social media users who announced him dead. Lumbuye had previously used Facebook to allege that Museveni and the Kabaka of Buganda were dead.

For weeks, ‘Lumbuye talk’ has dominated media headlines as Ugandans keep tasking security to explain his whereabouts.

But to Mr Oryem, Lumbuye shouldn’t be an issue to Ugandans. Instead the citizens should be working to feed their families and also look after themselves because at no point will Lumbuye contribute to the well-being of their families.

Oryem made the comments on Tuesday while appearing on Morning At NTV, the strong speaking Oryem hesitated to reveal whether Lumbye was in the country or not contrary to his earlier position when he briefed journalists that Lumbuye had been on plane enroute to Uganda.

“He is alive, people shouldn’t be worried about him. The relevant authorities will at the right time bring him before courts of law. People should be busy looking for survival, not asking about Lumbuye,” he said.

He added: “”People should go around trying to look for their survival, they should work hard to look after their families and increase their household income. In Uganda, there are many things that are more important than Lumbuye.”
