Residents of Pukor, Subcounty in Pader district who are beneficiaries of NUSAF III have reportedly received blind cows which were supplied by a contractor sourced by Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
The 3 groups of NUSAF III whose members reportedly receives blind cows are Loyocak Animal Traction, Abung Animal Traction and Gangba Animal Traction all in Pukor parish, Pukor Sub-County.
These cows were supplied last month.
Simon Oroma Akecha, the Chairperson of Loyocak Animal Traction who is one of the beneficiaries confirmed getting a blind cow.
He said when he realized that the cow given to him is blind, he informed the District NUSAF Officer, but no action has been taken.
He added that the three NUSAF III groups have all paid for the contractor at a cost Shs40.8m for supplying 48 animals including the blind one.
The local contractor, identified as Bosco Otto denied the allegations, saying he was not informed by group leaders about the problem surrounding blind animals.
He said because of the lockdown he bought all his animals from within the district at a cost of Shs850,000, and they were in good health as per the veterinary report.
The Sub-County Chairperson of Pukor, Opio Richard Ojwini, also confirmed the report of the blind cows and called for action against the contractor.
He said the seven blind cows were among the animals inspected by the office of the District Veterinary Officer before they were given to beneficiaries.
