Sanlam Uganda CFO in Trouble for Mismanaging shs3.5bn

A whistleblower has interested the management of Sanlam Uganda to probe Anthony Gitonga Kirimi for allegedly mismanaging the company’s funds totaling to $1 million, this website has reliably learnt.

Mr Gitonga is the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), a senior executive with responsibility for the financial affairs of Sanlam.

According to the information volunteered by the whistleblower, the accused reportedly obtained the funds by false pretense.

“This was detected over a series of transactions involving big sums of money flowing in the same direction on irregular intervals from Sanlam Insurance company to Afgri KAI Limited, Bluefin and then to individual accounts in Standard Chartered Bank Uganda,” the whistleblower claims.

0100241611600, is the Standard Chartered Bank account number in the names of Anthony Gitonga Kirimi.

The whistleblower further suggests that part of the funds was also deposited on Stanbic Bank account  in the names of Bluefin.

“Bluefin is owned by Anthony Gitonga Kirimi and his wife Sabiiti Jacquline.”

“And another account in DFCU Bank Uganda Limited in the names of Anthony Gitonga Kirimi. All these funds were wired to these accounts in the name of helping farmers. And information shows that most of the transactions were done in March. For example, in March 2021 we noticed the last transaction,” the whistleblower further says.

It is also alleged that most of the funds have since been used to buy expensive real estate properties in Kira Municipality.

“For example, the property in Kira, Kito- plot 14292 Block No 185, worth over $250,000 in value, very expensive cars- V8 Landcruiser –Number plate UBH589E.”

Mr Gitonga, information says bought his father in law a house on the same area and owns an apartment block on the same street.

The whistleblower concludes that the fraud was inside job masterminded by Anthony Gitonga Kirimi and Joseph, a staff at Sanlam Insurance Uganda Limited.

“And we also believe the external audits were influenced by the same members. We recommend a clear investigation is done and also all of the finance department team at Sanlam Insurance Uganda Limited be independently investigated.”

This website contacted Mr Gitonga for a comment but couldn’t respond to both our calls and text messages.

Whereas he saw Whatsapp texts, he didn’t reply.

And further scrutiny of the phone particular registration revealed number as that of Anthony Gitonga Kirimi.
