A man identified as Ibrahim Katamba has forcefully taken over the management and ownership of Nexus Bar located in Najjera, a Kampala suburb.
He has since dissolved staff and recruited his own.
Shockingly, no worker had even seen or heard about Mr Katamba as part of the administration or proprietorship.
Nexus bar began in 2010 as a ramshackled car washing bay in the jungles of Najjera area.
The washing would be supervised by Ivan Kakooza, who at the time worked with Ericson as an Engineer. While away on duty, Ivan was assisted by his cousin brother only identified as Mutebi, a pharmacist.
The duo were shareholders.
They built the dilapidated ‘kafunda’ into one of the most popular and funky hangouts in Kampala.
At its peak, Nexus was giving competitors a bloody nose.
From 2016 until early 2020 when Covid-19 broke out in the country resulting into closure of bars, Nexus had been trending among the top 10 bars in Kampala.
Unfortunately, the owner Ivan Kakooza later died of Covid-19 mid- last year.
Without next of Kin, his co- director Mutebi assumed the operations of the bar and has been managing it ever since.
However, last week Katamba emerged from nowhere and claimed ownership.
This website has learnt that Katamba claims to be Late Ivan’s maternal uncle.
“But Katamba and the deceased never saw each other eye to eye, a reason he never stepped at Nexus bar when Ivan was alive,” said relative who spoke to this website.
Surprisingly, Katamba never attended Ivan’s funeral last year, neither did he bury him.
“Mutebi also recognizes him as his uncle but of course he has never invested a single coin in the bar. So there is confusion,” a relative added.
During his stay at Nexus, he has been calling all clients who have debts instructing them to pay him directly.
He told managers to surrender books of accounts, available cash and keys for both bar and events’ stores.
He has started recruiting workers of his choice.
“All this happens as Mutebi, the recognized owner looks on in awe wondering what to do to the old man who has threatened to bewitch whoever stands on his way,” a worker who asked not to be named said.
