The Ministry of Health has succeeded in installing ICU equipment in 15 regional hospitals across the country in a bid to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fifteen health facilities which have the ICU beds ranging from 10 to 12 include Lira Referral Hospital, Jinja referral Hospital, St Marys Lacor, Mbale referral hospital, Lira University, Entebbe General, Kawempe national referral, Mbarara University, Uganda- China Friendship Naguru, Kabale Referral, Hoima referral, Arua referral, Bombo Military, Fort Portal RHH, Moroto RHH, Mubende RHH and Gulu RHH.
Ventilators were installed last year as said by the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine.
In her communication through social media platform Twitter, Diana said that by the end of 2020 all 13 regional referral hospitals would be fully equipped with state of the art ICU equipment because the apparatus had landed into the country from Israel awaiting installation.
However, a section of the public that is hell-bent on maligning top officials of the Ministry resurfaced Dr Diana’s tweet at a time the country is battling the spiking Covid cases and deaths.
The detractors blame the Ministry on the spiraling deaths resulting from shortage of ICU beds without pointing out how the citizens had at first ignored the health guidelines which is key in fighting transmission of the virus.
