Government will use the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) database to identify vulnerable people who need Covid-19 relief, Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja has said.
Unlike the previous lockdown when government distributed relief food, Nabbanja said this time round vulnerable Ugandans will receive mobile money.
“We shall use the NI RA list and local authorities to identify these vulnerable people. We shall use mobile money because we believe it shall cut many administration costs.” She said on NBSTV on Monday morning.
Government will first deal with the needy staying in urban areas and besides government has no enough resources to cover the country.
It remains unknown what approach will be used to track needy Ugandans in NIRA database.
The new Prime Minister said, “We shall sit tomorrow with the various committees and come up with the ‘how much’ each vulnerable individual will get. Vulnerable people are known, we have people who aren’t working now and those who haven’t worked for over a year.”
