Eddie Mutwe Narrates prison Ordeal: I was Ordered to Squat while Naked as my Testicles Dangled

Eddie Mutwe

Edward Rodgers Sebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe, the chief bodyguard of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi has recounted his dark days at Kitalya Prison.

Mutwe, was arrested along with a bunch of other National Unity Platform (NUP) members in Kalangala in January while on a campaign trail.

The entire campaign team of Mr Kyagulanyi was rounded off by Military police and arrested.

Mutwe and his group of 17 were released on Monday, reunited with their families and friends.

Another prominent member of NUP who was freed on Monday is  Ali Bukeni alias Nubian Li.

On Tuesday as the jailbirds met with their leader Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine at his home in Magere, Wakiso District, Eddie Mutwe narrated the suffering he was subjected to in jail.

He said that immediately after his arrest in Kalangala, he was handcuffed for some days in prison.

“We were forced into prison on handcuffs, if we would complain, he would be hit with batons and gun butts,” Mutwe said.

He added that his worst experience began when was ordered to undress in front of all prisoners and prison warders.

As he explained the moment, Mutwe broke down before journalists.

He wondered the humiliation he went through as his private parts dangled while raising his arms and jumping.

Speaking Luganda Mutwe narrated: “While on handcuffs, they told me to remove my shirt and trouser and underpant. I couldn’t believe. They then asked me to face the other side and squat. Ehhhhhhh…yiiii,” Mutwe cried.

His colleague Nubian Li said that authorities ordered Kitalya prison warders to cut off his hair to frustrate him.

Frank Beine, the spokesperson of Uganda Prison when contacted to respond to these torture claims laughed off saying Eddie Mutwe and group are simply seeking for sympathy yet they know the truth.

“It is a policy in our prisons that every new prisoner is checked- the whole body. Why do we check them? Because we want to find out if their bodies have scars or injuries as they enter prisons,” he said.

Adding that some prisoners particularly members of opposition would blackmail Prison authorities with torture accusations displaying injuries before the media yet the wounds/scars existed.

“All these claims were documented by the Human Rights Committee of Parliament. The MPs visited the prisons and know the truth,” Mr Beine concluded.
