Museveni nominates Lumumba as Vice President

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has chosen NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba as the Vice President in his next government, TrumpetNews has learnt.

The President has since sent Lumumba’s name to Parliament of Uganda for vetting and approval.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament is chaired by Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

“Oulanyah has the name already and is expected to finish the vetting process today and the Speaker will report back to the President whether Lumumba qualifies or not,” said a source.

If Parliament approves her, Museveni will communicate to the nation through official channels of State House.

A source also said that Museveni has also selected a name of the Prime Minister which he sent to Parliament along with Lumumba’s.

But nominee’s name remains highly protected because of the sensitivity of matter, our source said.

After the two names are endorsed and announced, the Premier will then present proposed ministers to Parliament for vetting before President Museveni officially announces his cabinet.

This website understands that Hon Ruhakana Rugunda who has served as Prime Minister since 2015 following the sacking of Amama Mbabazi will not return in the next cabinet.

We reported in April this year how Rugunda had written to the President asking to be relieved of his duties.

The Premier however, addressed the media at Parliament dismissing our report as false and maintaining that as a revolutionary he doesn’t retire from leadership.

The long awaited cabinet is expected to be announced by the President in the coming days. Multiple sources say it will be released next Saturday or Sunday.

No State House official we spoke to was willing to divulge any information related to cabinet.

Lindah Wamboka Nabusayi, the Presidential press secretary was not available for a comment.

If Lumumba is approved, she will replace Hon Edward Ssekandi Kiwanuka who has been in the position since 2011.

Previously media reports indicated that President Museveni had offered former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga the Vice President slot which she denied after losing Speakership to Mr Oulanyah.
