Petrol bombers Attack Kampala a Day to Museveni’s Swearing In

URSB building was in flames

Suspected criminals have thrown petrol bombs at three different buildings in Kampala City leaving properties including cars destroyed beyond repair.

Police and its sister security agencies have since kicked off investigations into this alleged domestic terrorism.

The first explosion occurred at 9pm in the city center after Georgia House which houses Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and is adjacent to CPS went up in flames.

A few minutes later, Police reported of an attempted assassination in Nankulabye suburb when former Jinja District RDC Eric Sakwa’s car was petrol bombed as he parked on the road side.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire told this website that luckily enough Sakwa survived but his car was damaged.

“Motor vehicle UG 3348C belonging to the former RDC of Jinja a one Eric Sakwa has been petrol bombed at Nakulabye, the scene has been visited by Old Kampala Police team, investigations are ongoing,” Luke said.

He said that at URSB three cars were burnt.

“Cars parked in their parking lot got burnt, fire and rescue have extinguished the fire , we have one eye witness and statements are being recorded,” he said.

Another incident of a petrol bomb explosion , according to reports happened in Natete a few kilometres from the city center.

It is alleged that the bombers were riding on a motorcycle.  No single has died in the attack.

Military has heightened its deployment and patrolling in the city and neighboring suburbs.

The wave of the attacks comes just a day to President Yoweri Museveni’s Swearing In ceremony in Kampala

Government invited 4000 dignitaries.

12th May has since been declared a public holiday by the authorities.

Security while addressing the media earlier warned of planned events to disrupt Museveni’s swearing in, including a parallel occasion by the opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi in Iganga Town.

He has been placed under house arrest at his home in Magerere, Wakiso District.
