Breaking: NRM invites MPs interested in Speaker’s job to Pick forms

Dr Tanga Odoi has issued a communication on Tuesday

In unprecedented twist of events, the Ruling Party Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi has issued an announcement notifying all party legislators interested in contesting for the position of Speaker and deputy to pick forms from the EC office at Kyadondo in Kampala.

Dr Tanga Odoi informed the aspirants that “interest forms” will be ready at his office starting tomorrow, Wednesday 5th May.

“NRM Electoral Commission calls upon party members that are interested in the speakership and deputy speakership positions of the 11th parliament to pick interest forms from the NRM electoral commission starting tomorrow,” the party tweeted on Tuesday.

This development has thrown spanner in the works considering that the Party Chairman President Yoweri Museveni had suspended campaigns last month.

He said, he will consult his legal advisor and the Attorney General for further direction.

Previously, candidates would campaign in Parliament and voted thereafter without picking “interest forms” from the party.

Candidates would be endorsed by the NRM’s highest organ Central Executive Committee (CEC).

11 MPs had expressed interest in standing for position of Deputy Speaker while three vowed to stand for Speakership.

Ssemujju Nganda of the FDC joined the current Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and her Deputy Jacob Oulanyah in eyeing for the main seat in the 11th Parliament.
