Museveni invites Amama Mbabazi as Special Guest to NRM Delegates Conference

Museveni and Mbabazi have lately held numerous talks. Reports suggest Mbabazi could be returning to government.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held a private meeting with his former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi on Monday night shortly after seeing off Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah at State House Entebbe.

TrumpetNews  has learnt that Mbabazi’s armoured car was spotted exiting State House gates past curfew hours, pointing to fact that the two former friends had been meeting for a few hours.

According to a source, Museveni who earlier mediated a heated meeting between Kadaga and Oulanyah said he was rushing to meet another important person who was already in the building.

He then concluded the meeting of the two rivals by suspending campaigns for Speaker and Deputy Speaker until he receives a legal opinion from the Attorney General and his lawyers for a direction.
Our trusted source said Museveni was accompanied by only his PPS Dr Kenneth Omona.
“No one else was allowed into the meeting, but it must have been a success since Mzee came out all smiling,” a source said.
Succession?
There has been wide speculation that President Museveni is considering relinquishing power to Mr Mbabazi whom he worked with for a longtime close to 40 years since 1970s.
Before Mbabazi left government in 2015, he would make decisions in the absence of the President prompting government officials to conclude that he is the successor.
However, Mbabazi contested against Museveni in 2016, lost and lived a quiet life until 2019 when he  began making public appearance and later met Museveni at Kisozi which raised debate that he was returning to government.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Mbabazi has silently been working/ mobilizing for his former confidant  particularly in the last concluded election.
Don Wanyama, the President’s spokesperson was not available for a comment when reached.
