Lukwago dares Kyagulanyi- “Be like Besigye”

The two politician, lukwago and Kyagulanyi are very popular in Buganda region.

Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has challenged Robert Kyagulanyi to quit National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership and concentrate his energies on ‘Plan B’ of removing the regime.

Lukwago said Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine should learn from Col. Kizza Besigye who in 2012 quit the FDC presidency to focus on activism, an approach Lukwago believes can effectively remove President Yoweri Museveni from power if its properly executed.

Appearing on a TV talk show on Tuesday, the soft-spoken Lukwago supported the idea of peaceful protests as announced by Mr Kyagulanyi earlier at a news conference in Kamwokya.

However, Lukwago said, Kyagulanyi will have to step down from NUP because the street struggle requires more time and efforts, therefore if he is to successfully engage the regime, he (Kyagulanyi) should not be preoccupied.

Besigye, a close ally of Erias Lukwago has been at the vanguard of the struggle to change government since 2001. In 2012 he quit FDC presidency, cutting his tenure short. He is yet to fulfil his dream of taking power 20 years later.

Lukwago said that when you are a party president, you have more tasks including building structures and managing the internal affairs of the party.

“So what my brother should do is to quit and he joins the struggle to fight this dictatorship when he is free and not preoccupied,” Lukwago said.

Before Kyagulanyi’s announcement, Uganda police warned that a section of opposition leaders were planning a wave of violent protests across country. Police warned that no one will be allowed to disrupt peace of Ugandans.

But Kyagulanyi responded to Police’s claims as propaganda, insisting that his demonstrations will be peaceful.
