Uganda intensifies Discussions with China on Economic development

The government of Uganda is determined to strengthen its bilateral relations with Chinese government at a time when the East African nation is having rough diplomacy with USA.

As a means of finding new allies in Asia, President Museveni’s administration has consistently engaged China.

On Thursday the junior Foreign Minister Okello Oryem held discussions with H.E Zheng Zhuqiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China at the Ministry Headquarter.

“The Meeting deliberated on ways to further strengthen development, economic and technical cooperation between the two nations,” the Foreign Ministry tweeted.

China is the second biggest economy in the world with nominal GDP of $14.34 trillions, annual growth of 6.1% and GDP per capita of $65,298 thousand.

Late last month President Yoweri Museveni met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi at State House Entebbe.

Yang Jiechi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings to President Yoweri Museveni and congratulated him on winning re-election in the presidential election.

Yang Jiechi said that with the personal care and promotion of the two heads of state, China-Uganda relations have developed smoothly.

China supports Uganda in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and stands ready to work with Uganda to further deepen political mutual trust, enhance the synergy of development strategies and complementarity of strengths, expand practical cooperation within the framework of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and push the bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership to a new height.

China is ready to continue to cooperate with Uganda in fighting the pandemic and jointly promoting the building of a global community of health for all.
