Hon. Sam Kutesa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda this morning met Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala.
The Minister, welcomed the Executive Secretary to Uganda and commended the IGAD’s excellent working relationship with the Government of the Republic of Uganda as one of its member states.
Hon. Kutesa further appreciated the interventions being undertaken by IGAD in Uganda and region highlighting key initiatives in the areas of social economic development, peace and security, migration, environment as well as regional integration and development in the region.
Dr. Workneh on his part conveyed a message of gratitude to the Minister, for the warm reception and hospitality that has been accorded to him further stating that his intention is to work closely with the Ministry.
He further reiterated the commitment of IGAD to deliver on its mandate to promote regional cooperation and integration for the benefit of the IGAD citizenry’s development.
In conclusion, Hon. Kutesa re-affirmed Uganda’s commitment to promoting regional peace and security, regional integration, sustainable development and cooperation with IGAD member states.
Also in attendance from IGAD were, Dr. John Patrick Kabayo, Coordinator IDDRISI Platform, Ms. Lucy Daxbacher, IGAD Head of Mission to Uganda, Mr. Phillip Gathungu, Executive Support Officer IGAD and from the Ministry were; Amb. Patrick Mugoya, the Permanent Secretary other senior officials.
