Two legislators have so far expressed interests in contesting for the position of Deputy Speaker, after Hon Jacob Oulanyah openly revealed he will not run again.

Instead Oulanyah is eyeing for the top job of the Speaker of Parliament.

The two MPs are Muhammad Nsereko of Kampala district and Robinah Rwakoojo the representative of Gomba West.

Muhammad Nsereko, however is independent while Robinah is sponsored by the NRM party which gives her higher chances of scooping the position given the party’s numerical strength in Parliament.

Robinah has quietly started lobbying and soliciting support from the legislators.

This website didn’t succeed in seeking a comment from Robinah as her phone couldn’t be reached, but a close relative confirmed that she is running for the post.

An official in Parliament said, it is always in the interest of the party to have its members occupy these high ranking positions for its own interests.

Also, Mohammad Nsereko much as reports indicate that he is fronted by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, he is perceived as opposition who could frustrate the party’s interests if he is elected.

Robinah, a wife to Sam Rwakoojo a former Secretary of Electoral Commission is a lawyer by profession and has previously headed crucial committee in the August House- Deputy chairperson on legal and parliamentary affairs.

She is described as a sober legislator and unifying factor in Parliament.

The current deputy Speaker Hon Oulanyah has vowed to challenge Rebecca Kadaga in June.
