The Katatumba family is in the news again. The heir to the family was on 27th January committed to the Kitalya Government Prison over obtaining credit by pretense.
Rugiirwa Katatumba who is fallen tycoon Bonny Katatumba’s twin son is alleged to have obtained money by false pretense. The Chief Magistrate’s court sitting at the Kampala Holden Court, Buganda Road sent to prison the fast-lane loving socialite to Kitalya on 27th January, 2021 and will be reproduced in court on the 29th of January, 2021.
The flamboyant Rugiirwa is known to hobnob with Kampala’s top tycoons splashing money on expensive whiskey, Cuban cigars and high end 4×4 cars.
The Katatumba kids are known on the social scene having been born in the wealthy Katatumba family with the late family head Bonny owning high value real estate and diplomatic positions.
Rugiirwa is also a twin to struggling artist, Angella Katatumba of the ‘Tonelabira’ fame. Angella was also recently in the media for giving an interview where she said she doesn’t know how to cook since her father had brought her up under the care of maids and servants.
“It wouldn’t be long before these Katatumba kids start getting involved in such scandals. They prefer to drink and laze rather than work. They have squandered the wealth inherited from their late father with their lavish lifestyles with nothing to add,” said Peter Ntende, a friend of the family.
The Katatumba real estate includes the Katatumba Island in Lake Victoria, the Blacklines House in Kampala, Hotel Diplomate in Muyenga and the defunct Katatumba International School which is probably Uganda’s first International School.
