Defeated MP Waluswaka on ‘Suicide Watch’ as Bank moves to Attach his Kungu home, Rentals

James Waluswaka is yet to come to terms of losing a Parliamentary seat in the concluded general elections.

He was defeated by a radio journalist, Geoffrey Mutiwa in the NRM primaries but returned as independent with high hopes of trouncing his tormentor.

Waluswaka, a professional engineer has been Bunyole West Member of Parliament until January 14.

During his tenure, Waluswaka erected a palatial residence in Kungu, Kiira division, Wakiso district and also put up rentals that have fetched him monthly income.

Because, politics is highly commercialized in Uganda, Waluswaka acquired a loan from Stanbic bank to help him run the primary election campaign.

“He staked his house and rentals as security. He said he would service the loan with his salary since he expected to go through without any hurdles,” said a close friend who asked not to be mentioned.

“He didn’t expect to have a tough campaign.”

In a twist of events, Waluswaka lost the NRM primaries miserably by becoming the third.

He vowed to return as independent and use money to retain his seat. The constituents still ate the money but rejected to give the mandate.

“He went back to Stanbic and asked for more shs 400 million to take it to the constituency. He still lost,” said a separate source.

The bank is moving to attach his property after learning that he lost the election.

“He is perturbed and doesn’t sleep. He has lost weight. He is in big trouble. He no longer picks calls including those of of his campaigners,” a source said.

We tried to call Waluswaka repeatedly, but he didn’t pick our phone calls.
