Uganda Police has said that Hon Asuman Basalirwa has led a team of 7 lawyers who visited opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine as his Magere residence in Wakiso district on Thursday afternoon.
A joint security deployment laid siege at Bobi Wine’s home since January 14 on claims that he intends to incite violence after he publically dispelled the election results announced by Electoral Commission (EC).
Bobi Wine garnered 34% of the votes according to official EC results.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Bobi Wine should first denounce violence to allow him free movement.
On Wednesday police reported on its social media pages that Mr Bobi Wine had rejected to meet lawyers who were allowed by security to see him.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire on Thursday confirmed that Bobi Wine later met his lawyers.
“Today at around 3.30PM , a total of 8 lawyers led by Hon. Asuman Basalirwa, who form part of Hon.Kyagulanyi’s legal team, visited him at his home in Magere. They in addition carried food items and essential commodities for the family, in supplement to the daily purchases.
We continue to maintain our preventive action and cover in the area, as we await the outcome of the right of Habeas Corpus, before the High Court in Kampala.”
