VIDEO: Charles Mayiga: Why shouldn’t a Muganda vote a Muganda

Buganda Kingdom Premier Mayiga

Buganda Premier Charles Mayiga has praised all Kingdom subjects who heeded to his request and voted political leaders that understand and respect the Kabaka His Highness Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.

Presiding over a function shortly after the January 14 election, Mr Mayiga congratulated Medard Segona who was re-elected in Busiro East as MP on National Unity Platform flag.

“Thank you for electing Medard Segona because I told people to vote only those who understand the Kabaka. Segona understands the Kabaka. I will not fear to say it,” Mayiga said arousing a thunderous applause from the audience.

He added that he will not fear to say anything due to current political tension in the country.

He added: “Even tomorrow vote only those who understand the Kabaka.”

He wondered why a Muganda wouldn’t love a fellow Muganda.

“What is wrong with a Muganda voting a fellow Muganda??”

Mayiga said that is ok for other tribes to vote their tribes mate. “A Munyankore should love a Munyankore and a Mucholi love a Mucholi,” he said.

He then asked the listeners if they had understood this message.

“I hope you understand me well.”

Medard Segona is among 56 lawmakers who were elected into Parliament on NUP ticket. Majority of these MPs hail from Buganda.

Equally NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi amassed overwhelming support in the whole of Buganda region and he defeated his closest rival President Yoweri Museveni with over 70% of votes in this region.

However, there are growing concerns of tribal undertones propagated by some politicians premising on the performances of Presidential candidates in the recently concluded election in particular regions of the country.

Robert Kyagulanyi scored 34% while Museveni won the election with 58%.
