23 members of National Unity Platform (NUP) have Monday evening arrived at Makindye Military Barracks in Kampala and will face the Court Martial, TrumpetNews can exclusively report.
The group has been detained in Masaka after Court declined to grant them bail two days ago.
“They were brought in a prison bus and escorted by a military convoy. They reached Makindye at around 7pm,” said a source.
Among those transferred to Makindye include Edward Sebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe, Buken Ali aka Nubian LI, Ntege William commonly known as Kyuma Kya Yesu and others.
This development comes a day after NUP legal officers wrote a letter to Court and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to have Mutwe and his group released before January 19 when they would appear before the Magistrate for mention of their case.
However, the lawyers’ efforts had been unsuccessful by the time the crew was transported from Masaka to Makindye.
It remains unclear what new charges Mutwe and his crew will face in the Military Court.
Every military official contacted by this website about this development declined to give a comment.
Asking not to be quoted a high ranking soldier questioned how this website accessed this information.
“How did you know?” he asked before ending the call.
Eddie Mutwe heads Robert Kyagulanyi’s security team.
He was arrested in Kalangala last week along with several others on Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s campaign trail.
They were taken to Masaka detention center.
Last Monday accused persons appeared before Masaka Chief Magistrate Charles Yeteise who read them charges of participating in an act likely to spread infectious disease of covid 19 as well as inciting violence with other colleagues.
126 were released but Mutwe and 22 others had fresh charges like assaulting police officers on duty and malicious damage to property slapped on them. They were remanded.
The magistrate adjourned the matter to 19th January 2020 for mention of their new cases.
Those on fresh charges include Stanley Kafuko, Lukeman Kampala and Hassan Katumba.
Its alleged that Buken Ali aka Nubian Lee, Edward Sebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe, Ntege William aka Kyuma kya Yesu and others on 30th December 2020 at Kibaale Village did an act likely to spread Covid 19 a dangerous disease.
Its further alleged that Bukeni Ali aka Nubian Lee, Edward Sebuufu aka Eddie Mutwe and Ntege William aka Kyuma Kya Yesu on 30th December in Mugoye Sub county, Kalangala District incited people to form a procession which could lead to loss of property and lives.
