Workaholic Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary (PS) Dr Diana Atwine has vehemently responded to what she referred to as a cluster of “fake news,” which alleged that the ministry had procured substandard tents which had been “carried away by wind.”
The tents were bought by Ministry of Health to supplement on hospitals to host COVID-19 patients in case numbers surge.
Indeed, Dr Diana and team had made a right decision considering an upsurge in the cases of COVID and deaths lately.
On Wednesday morning she released the photos as evidence on her twitter account, days after social media was awash with reports that the tents had been ‘blown by the wind.’
Diana showed photos of tents erected in different health facilities across the country.
Her confidence to respond with proof has left detractors exposed for consistently attacking, denting, blackmailing and propagating falsehoods against Ministry of Health officials especially PS Diana and Minister Ruth Jane Aceng.
It has also raised suspicion why Annette Mutoni Kyakuwa, of the of the Budget Monitoring and Accountability Unit of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development rejected to include the tents in her report.
“MOH has never received and spent such amount of money. However covid is an expensive epidemic. Interest your self to know how much countries are spending before you make MOH a punch bug,” Diana said in response to a local TV critiquing the handling of COVID.
The PS continues to advise Ugandans against the danger paused by COVID saying;
“Even when you have recovered from covid, you can get reinfected with worse outcome. Research does not show that one is protected once you get infected. Some experienced worse sickness than the previous infection. Please be vigilant to prevent covid.”
